Adaptive Biotechnologies was founded in 2009 following a scientific breakthrough led by Harlan Robins, PhD, then a computational biologist at Fred Hutch Cancer Center. His work opened a new window into the adaptive immune system. Recognizing the discovery’s potential, Harlan brought in his brother, Chad Robins, to build a company around the emerging field of immunosequencing. Together, they founded Adaptive to translate the genetics of the immune system into clinical products that transform how disease is diagnosed and treated. Harlan served as Adaptive’s Chief Scientific Officer until 2026.
Today, Adaptive continues to advance its platform to generate meaningful insights into the adaptive immune system, fueling the development of new therapeutics and clinical diagnostics that can improve patient care.
